Everyone wants to be the best they can be. If focusing is something you struggle with take this summer to make some self-improvements or learn something you have always wanted to know more about. You don’t have to do something boring to improve your ability to focus. What you chose may not even seem like it is something that can improve focus but there is a relationship between your interest and your ability to focus more. Any improvement in your knowledge, self-awareness, skills, relationships, hobbies/interests all can affect how we behave or perform in other areas of your life. We are looking for improvement here not perfection.

It can be fun to improve yourself. Here are some ways to do that with the rest of this summer if you haven’t already.

  1. Read or listen to a great book – Listening is not cheating you still have to pay attention. It can be fiction or nonfiction. My husband only reads nonfiction books and while I think they some a little dry he loves them which is all that matters.
  2. Become more self-aware – Pay attention to your strengths and how you use them in life. Are they other areas where your strengths could help you? What do you need and value? How do you honor those in your life? What are your personal beliefs or goals? How will your strengths and values help you get to your goals? Write it down what you are noticing about yourself in any form journal, diary, or blog.
  3. Volunteer – Giving job is a great way to learn more about an interest, feel a sense of pride or just make a difference. Pick something that motivates you and inspires you.
  4. Gratitude – Maybe number 2 on this list is a little too much for you. That’s okay. Try this one instead. List three things every day that you are thankful for. Be specific. I just do it in a journal but there are apps too.
  5. Tech free for a day – 24 hours of no technology may sound unpleasant to some but it can be a nice little vacation.
  6. Exercise –  It is so good for your body and mind. Maybe it is just a walk for you – that is fine. Everyone needs to start somewhere. Maybe it is two hours at the gym lifting weights. That is good too. Maybe you need to mix it up to keep it interesting. Maybe you need a partner or a class; all good – just move!
  7. Change your mindset – If you are the type of person who can always find something to complain about. Just not to for a whole day. Negativity can change how your brain is wired. Getting it out of your life can powerfully change your mindset.
  8. Learn something new – Whatever sounds interesting to you. Maybe it is a new fact every day or maybe there is a subject you have always wanted to know more about. Jump in – read about it, watch Ted talks or Youtube videos, talk to someone what know more about it, go to lectures or talks.
  9. Anything else you want to do that will help you grow.
